$4 Billion a Year in Food Stamps on Soda

People using SNAP, the food stamp program, spend about $4 billion annually on soda. Our federal government has been spending this much subsidizing obesity for years.

Those who are seeking reforms are being blocked, of course by leftists.  Just listen to loony leftist Rosa Delauro justify soda purchases with food stamps.

So, if rich people can spend their money on lobster, people on food stamps should waste billions on sugary soda. Forget staples like rice and beans (which are cheap, nutritious and filling - as some of us had to learn). Go out and spend away on junk food with other taxpayers money. Oh, and then get the other taxpayers to pay for the healthcare consequences.

You can't make up this stuff. This is the insanity of leftists.

Entitlement programs are no longer about helping people survive. It's about an out of control entitlement mindset and politicians who know they can secure their own wealth and prestige by buying votes with wealth transfers.

Soda was a treat when I was a kid. If we wanted something other than water, we had iced tea or Kool-Aid (or more likely one of its cheaper competitors). My parents worked their butts off. I guess they could have opted for the food stamps and we could have more treats.

This is the problem with our society and our system.
