I wrote about this last year, and now PC World writes that Apple is headed down the same road with the iPhone as it did with the home computing, second place. Android is quickly gaining smartphone market share.
Somehow the folks at Apple just don't seem to understand that they have to allow consumers more choices, at least if they want to be a leader rather just an innovator that eventually falls behind. Apple could now own the cellphone world if they had followed the Google Android route and licensed its operating system, at least some version of it, to other manufacturers. They could have done this and still sold their own hardware.
