Turkey recalls US ambassador after Congressional vote on genocide

The government of Turkey recalled its ambassador to the US after the House Foreign Affairs Committee voted to officially classify as genocide the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Christian Armenians by Turkish Muslims in the early 1900s.

Yes, it happened, but it was almost 100 years ago. What's the point in bringing it back up and taking actions that affect relations with one of the United States' closest Muslim allies today?
