The secular progressive Left has shown its true nature in France with President Nicolas Sarkozy advocating for the banning of burkhas.
You might personally view burkas as ugly, stupid, weird or oppressive, but if a woman believes it is a sign of modesty for her faith she should be able to choose to wear it. That should always be the case as long as the action, like wearing a burka, is not infringing upon the rights of anyone else. Unless someone else in involved in threatening or physically forcing a woman to wear a burka, government should not get involved. Of course the burkha shouldn't be allowed while taking an official photo for a license or passport.
What next? Will they tell Pentecostal women that they cannot always wear long sleeves, skirts that reach the ground and unshorn hair.
It seems that the secular progressives are for freedom to do everything (abortion on-demand up till the nth moment; easy, drive-by divorce; breeding and having "the government" take care of your children, etc.) but practicing ones faith gets is a problem.
Is America next?
